Tainted Milk, Japan's food safety concerns. 12/07/2011
0 Comments

BBC News recently reported on a recall of baby formula in Japan (follow the link here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16047697).  To put it mildly, Japan has had a tough year.  Japanese consumers and government officials have historically been very proud of the quality and safety of Japanese food.  "Local food" movements are gaining steam in our western society, but in Japan, "local" has always been part of the food culture.  Since the March 2011 disaster, "local" hasn't necessarily meant "safe" anymore.  As the Japanese people--in their wonderfully resilient and peaceful way--continue to work their way back from the Tohoku nightmare, "safe food" is a key market need.
